French Country Summertime Dining

Casual easy summertime living...that's how I like it!    My blue and white checked tablecloth lends the air of casualness that I want.

I love transferware but don't have a ton of storage otherwise I'd be stocking up on a lot of it.  I would like to expand on this pattern which is Devon Cottage by Johnson Brothers.

In my previous post I showed this new sign that I found which fits right in with my little bit of French Country decorating.

We stopped in at a garden center that also has a neat gift shop and they had three of these signs in different prints.  I struggled with which one to pick but ultimately I went with this because of my husband's connection to dairy farming in his youth.

In the corner I've got a few collected pieces and a yummy candle burning.

I added this little table that's been with me for at least 10 years under the plate rack.  I have to keep things very slim along that wall because there isn't much room.  That's why I was excited when I found this plate rack.  I'd love a hutch on this wall but I don't think they make them in an 8" depth!  I keep tossing around the idea of painting it a different color but so far I haven't acted on it!

I stacked tablecloths that are for this table in the basket.
Hey I may be starting a new trend!

  6. Wouldn't it be nice if they built cabinetry that is not so deep for those of us with less floor space? Man...I would love that, too! But you made a terrific choice with the plate rack because it fulfills the same job with the square footage you've got to work with. I really like your new bovine sign to go alongside it!

You have just given me a great idea for our kitchen with the bench under the rack. I think I'll try to find 2 to flank the new black cabinet I have in there. I really like yours with the colorful linens in the basket. It adds an unexpected little punch to the space and connects with the items on the rack above.

You're lookin' good for "le summer"! :-)

  7. Hi Liz, trying this again. My comment disappeared. I was saying how wonderful your setting looks. I love the blue and white and checked tablecloth. Love your sign added next to the flower urn. Everything is perfect. You have such a good eye for color. Love the plate rack and I like to mix black with blue too. So inviting.

  13. Your dining room is very pretty! I think it's fun to have to work with challenges like a narrow space - it's great to find bits and pieces to work in a space. Way more interesting than just going out and buying a whole lot of stuff at one go.

  14. I prefer the plate rack to be honest. You find a cabinetry and even in the size you want you end up stuffing it with things and this gives a more suave look in my opinion. I like living with less. Not sickly so - you know having one plate for each but if we have space we tend to pile on the goods ;)
    I love your whiteblueness creation.
I went for this combo in my room and it's elegant, resting and inviting.
I love the tablecloths - with their different - patterns close-by. Really do!
Happy Father's Day to your Amazing Husband!
